During lockdown I celebrated my 40th birthday, my wife gave me an amazing gift that I was unable to use until 12 months later, but when the time came I packed up, grabbed the dog and headed north.

Katie got me a voucher for Quirky Campers, a company that connects self-build van owners and enables anyone to hire and use their amazing creations. I’d been told to take full advantage and get away for a bit of time for myself, so when I finally got time, I took Storm with me to the Lake District and then onto Galloway Forest - what an amazing few days!

We set off late on Wednesday evening from our Staffordshire home and headed up the M6, it was mid-September and the evening sun was beautiful as we drove the 150 miles to our first destination - Seathwaite Farm, near Keswick. I chose this site as it seemed like a small and fairly quiet spot, close to some impressive hills and a prefect spot to park up the van - even though it was pitch black and almost midnight, I managed to grab a spot which was away from the few other vans and with an impressive view when I woke the next morning.
